Highland Village will begin updating the city’s long-standing, comprehensive and major planning documents with the hiring of an outside consulting firm.

City council unanimously approved a resolution for the contract at the September 28 meeting. Civil engineering, planning and development solidify McAdams is based in North Carolina but has branches in Lewisville and Roanoke.

The City will pay the firm $ 465,017 for its work.

Comprehensive and master plans are intended to serve as long-term guides for city staff and generally focus on future growth, priorities, services and development.

City manager Paul Stevens said town planning documents, some of which have not been updated since the mid-1990s, are crucial in establishing the city’s long-term vision.

“We want to maximize the economic development of the city and ensure that this development will improve the quality of life for our citizens,” said Stevens.

According to planning documents, only 78 acres of undeveloped land remain in Highland Village.

“We need to make sure we determine what is the best use for [that land] move forward, ”Stevens said.

Much of the company’s work, he said, will focus on updating the FM 407 corridor and amenity plan. The city hopes to improve the street and public spaces in the corridor and create greater accessibility in the region thanks to additional pedestrian and cycle paths.

The firm will also work on updating the various master plans for the city’s parks and recreation. Stevens said updated plans are more likely to receive funding for improvement projects.
