North Elba Shuts Town Hall Doors – Again | News, Sports, Jobs
LAKE PLACID – The doors of North Elba Town Hall will be closed to the public until further notice.
The town hall, which houses the operations of the village of Lake Placid and the northern town of Elba Island, has been closed due to the recent increase in local cases of COVID-19, according to the town’s website. . The Lake Placid DMV will also be closed this week, according to city supervisor Derek Doty. He said the town and village will reassess the closures at the end of this week.
The town hall drop box will be open Monday through Friday for people making payments to town and village.
Doty said the city court is trying to stagger who appears in court, but that court could end up being shut down completely.
The closures come after the Essex County Health Department reported a concentrated number of coronavirus cases in the town and village in recent weeks. Doty and village mayor Art Devlin said there had recently been a slight increase in cases among village and town employees.
Devlin said village workers are now adhering to more stringent safety guidelines than those set out by the county, such as quarantining workers who have been exposed to COVID-19 and are waiting to see if they develop symptoms.
“We are very careful and protect our vital services”, he said.
