Return of the 4th of July celebration to the village of Manlius
MANLIUS, NY (WSYR-TV) – Parades, live music, fireworks and people gathered, an Independence Day comeback like no other.
“I think it is important for us to have events like this to show not only that we are a community, but that we have adversity and that we can overcome all obstacles,” said the mayor. from the village, Paul Whorrall.
The village of Manlius went all out for the festivities, including a special appearance by Miss New York.
“I am so excited to be here in Manlius that I was so thrilled to receive an invitation to participate in the parade on July 4th and Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays so to be able to celebrate it in such a great village as Manlius is the best thing I could ask for, âsaid Miss New York, Sydney Park.
The streets were filled with community members cheering on their local heroes, first responders and political leaders after such a difficult year and a half of COVID restrictions.
“We are celebrating our independence from two things, I would say, our independence from the British at the time and from COVID, so we’re happy to see things back to normal a bit, so it’s a great feeling,” participating in the event, said Adam Bassi.
And Vietnam veteran Philip Meloon totally agrees.
“I am delighted that it has been two long years since our last visit and I have not missed a parade for probably 30 years,” he said.
This feeling of freedom has a different weight this year.
