September 11 commemorative events on Long Island set for 20th anniversary

The 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks will remain etched in Long Island memorials, which house around 500 of the nearly 3,000 victims killed in the World Trade Center.

Vigils large and small will be held at local 9/11 memorials and other locations through Saturday and throughout the weekend.

The following are more than a dozen events planned in Nassau and Suffolk counties:

CITY OF OYSTER BAY (SOUTH)

9/11 Honor Wall Memorial at Tobay Beach. For more information, please contact the City’s Youth and Community Services Department at 516-797-7900. 7 p.m. September 9.

CITY OF HEMPSTEAD

Town Park Point Lookout, Lido Boulevard (intersection of Loop Parkway and Lido Boulevard), Point Lookout. For more information visit hempsteadny.gov. 7:30 a.m. on September 11.

SOUTHAMPTON

NORTHERN CITY HEMPSTEAD
