Students celebrate Chinese New Year with fireworks: Bay Village Police Blotter

Disruption, Lake Road

At 11:58 p.m. on January 31, an officer noticed several fireworks going off near Huntington Beach. When an officer arrived, he found a large group of people in the north lot. The group of students were celebrating the Chinese New Year. They were informed of the fireworks laws and the rest of their fireworks were confiscated for disposal.

Fraud, Canterbury Road

On February 1 at 12:33 p.m., a resident reported that someone had used her personal information to get a car loan in Texas. Officers are investigating.

Flight, Juneway Drive

At 8:16 a.m. on February 3, a resident reported that two work vans full of tools were stolen overnight. Later that day, Cleveland police found one of the vans on Lorain Road. Two men (a Westlake resident and a Cleveland resident) were arrested by Cleveland police on charges unrelated to where the van was found. The van was processed and returned to its owner. At 6:10 a.m. on February 7, Cleveland police found the other van on W 71st Street.

Drunk driving, Lake Road

At 1:22 a.m. on February 5, an officer stopped a car near Porter Creek for a traffic violation. After speaking with the driver, the officer suspected he had been drinking. Field sobriety tests were administered and the 56-year-old Avon Lake driver was arrested.

At 12:54 a.m. on February 6, an officer stopped a car for a traffic violation. After speaking with the 19-year-old Bay Village driver, the officer suspected she had been drinking. Field sobriety tests were administered and the woman was advised that she was under arrest. When told, she became combative and fought with officers. Once subdued and handcuffed, she continued to be combative. Due to her level of intoxication and possible drug use, she was transported to a local hospital.
