Visit the Old Town Village in East Jersey this weekend for the season opener

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Middlesex County is excited to kick off the 2022 season at East Jersey Old Town Village on Saturday April 2 and Sunday April 3!

East Jersey Old Town Village officially opens for the season this weekend; meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a variety of activities and programming, including award-winning exhibits, food trucks and historical interpreters who bring the Village to life through their 18th and 19th century trades and crafts .

The village is also home to Discover Greatness, a traveling exhibit from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum featuring nearly 90 framed photographs depicting the history of African-American baseball from the late 1800s through the 1960s.

The nearby Cornelius Low House Museum will also be open with the county exhibit, ‘Treasures of Middlesex County: 300 Years of Raritan Valley History’, featuring historically significant artefacts including muskets, maps , documents, ceramics, furniture, etc. In addition to the museum, a curator will be on hand to work on the acquisitions.

Also, on Saturday, April 2, New York Mutuals will take on Liberty Base Ball Club in their home opener. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy a historic baseball game according to the rules, customs, equipment, and uniform specifications of the 1850s and beyond.

Rios, Director of the Board of Commissioners of the county. “Bring your families and friends and join in the celebration as history comes to life through unique programs and fascinating exhibits presented against the backdrop of our historic buildings.”

East Jersey Old Town Village is made up of reconstructed structures and replicas from the 18th and 19th centuries that represent the typical architecture of the farming and merchant communities once found in the Raritan Valley. The buildings include a tavern, a blacksmith’s shop, a cartwright’s shop, a school, a barracks, a church, the houses of the first settlers and other outbuildings.

East Jersey Old Town Village is located inside Johnson Park at 1050 River Road in Piscataway. The Cornelius Low House is located at 1225 River Road in Piscataway. Admission and parking are free at all sites. The events will take place rain or shine.
