Waldo Theater Hosts Community Meeting and Open House – Knox County VillageSoup

WALDOBORO — The Waldo Theater, 916 Main Street, is hosting a reunion and open house for the 2022 Community Theater season at the newly renovated theater on Tuesday, February 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Long known for its active local theater community, The Waldo has been closed since 2014 and under renovation since 2017. The 1930s venue reopened to in-person audiences in June 2021 with a community production of “Almost, Maine.”

The 2022 Season Reunion and Open House is for theater enthusiasts interested in helping with aspects of directing: acting, stage management, sets, costumes, props, lights and sound at reception and marketing.

“I look forward to seeing old theater friends at the reunion and to welcoming those who are interested in local theater but have not yet had the opportunity to attend,” said Kate Fletcher, general manager of Waldo. “I first got involved here as a stage parent in 2008 when my daughter starred in Waldo’s musical ‘Lighthouse’. Community theater can encourage lifelong abilities and present friends for life. We look forward to reopening The Waldo to greater community participation.

Fletcher plans to direct the first play of the year, Thornton Wilder’s New England classic “Our Town,” which opens May 12. Reunion attendees will learn about production plans and auditions, can sign up for production roles, and tour the renovated theater.

Masks and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are required inside the theater. Adults attending with children under 12 will be asked a series of standardized COVID questions.

This event is free and open to the public; RSVPs are requested. Visit waldotheatre.org/pages/theatre for more information and to RSVP.
